Amsterdam

The city flag of Amsterdam is based on the Coat of Arms, rotated 90 degrees. It has horizontal stripes of red-black-red with three X's in white on the central stripe, with proportions 2:3. The arms, with vertical stripes, dates from the 16th or 17th century. It featured on an unofficial flag until the present flag was adopted on 5 February 1975.
